This study provides important evidence from a longitudinal study that fails to support any meaningful association between a transition to family caregiving and telomere shortening over the first 3+ years of the caregiving experience. future work on the tl over time could focus on how caregiving strain, chronicity, or the type of caregiving (e.g., to a parent, spouse, or child; dementia/cognitive impairment or physical impairment caregiver) might be associated with tl. ultimately, more research to address the complex relationship between caregiving and measures of cellular aging is needed to improve the well-being of caregivers and care recipients. |
